The trial of accused Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman will begin with lawyers' opening statements in a federal court in Brooklyn on Tuesday, amid intense public attention and extraordinary security measures. Federal prosecutors say that as leader of Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel, Guzman, 61, directed massive shipments of heroin, cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine bound for the United States. He faces 17 criminal counts and a potential life sentence if convicted. As well as smuggling drugs to the United States, the Sinaloa Cartel has played a major role in narco violence between rival gangs that has torn areas of Mexico apart and defied successive governments. More than 200,000 people have been killed -- many in cartel feuds -- since the Mexican government sent troops in to take...

In southern California, the Woolsey Fire has burned more than 91,000 acres and was 20 percent contained, with 370 structures destroyed, officials said. The fire had forced authorities to issue evacuation orders for a quarter million people in Ventura and Los Angeles counties and beachside communities including the Malibu beach colony, home to many celebrities. At least two people have died in the Woolsey Fire, which is 20 miles long and 14 miles wide, threatening 57,000 structures. On Monday (November 12) both returning residents and those who had chosen to wait out the fire, surveyed the damage in their neighborhood. On some lots where million dollar homes once stood, the blaze left behind a scene of utter ruin, a mix of charred wreckage, burned palm trees, debris and ash. One Malibu r...

The outgoing rockets, which continued into the evening, lit up the skies of Gaza and set off air raid sirens throughout southern Israel. The military said warplanes, helicopters and tanks had struck over 30 militant targets, including military compounds, observation posts and weapons facilities. It also said it targeted a squad that was launching rockets. An airstrike destroyed the Gaza City headquarters of Hamas' Al Aqsa TV station. Workers had evacuated the building after the warning shots, and there were no immediate reports of casualties. Hamas and the smaller militant group Islamic Jihad said t...

Hamas ‘strike Israeli army bus’ with direct hit | The Sun

United Kingdom
Video published by Hamas appears to show an Israeli army bus being hit by a surprise guided-missile attack on Monday (November 11) near the Israel-Gaza border. An Israeli solider was wounded in the incident, the military said. The video has been reviewed by a senior editor and Reuters is confident the events portrayed are genuine. Palestinian militants on Monday carried out their most intensive shelling of Israel since the 2014 Gaza war in retaliation for a botched cross-border commando raid, drawing Israeli air strikes against Hamas' television station and other targets. 70-year-old Taiwanese Pokémon Go fanatic Chen San-yuan, aka Pokémon grandpa, has gone viral on the internet for playing Pokémon Go with 15 phones attached to his bicycle to "catch 'em all". Chen recalls learning about the game from his grandson and has been playing the game since 2016. With his impressive set-up, the septuagenarian has become an attraction in his neighborhood. Chen says that he spends an average of $300 USD a month to buy virtual currencies in the game and his gears costs more than $4800 USD.
